New Billboard by Photographer Alec Soth Promotes Creative Enterprise Zone Starting June 3

The Creative Enterprise Zone is pleased to announce the unveiling of the first-ever billboard by internationally renowned photographer and CEZ entrepreneur Alec Soth. Produced in partnership with developer First & First and Forecast Public Art, this public art intervention celebrates the CEZ as a thriving center of creative activity and economic vitality, making visible the depth and breadth of creative talent based here in the middle of the Twin Cities.

The billboard is situated at the northeast corner of University and Vandalia Avenues, across the street from the Dubliner Pub. It will be installed the afternoon of June 3rd and remain on display through June 30. The image to be featured is a detail of one of Soth’s most widely known photographs.

"A number of years ago I photographed this clothesline hanging from a houseboat on the Mississippi River,” Soth says about the image he selected for the billboard. “For me, this image represents the way in which the creative spirit can flourish anywhere. I like to think of this clothesline as a symbolic starting line for a new wave of creativity in St. Paul."

More details about the project will be made available at a special press event June 3. Media inquiries should be directed to Amy Danielson (, 612-245-2020) or Kyle Mianulli (, 612-280-9252).
