Join us for our (free) August #WeMakeItHere Happy Hour, featuring IFP MinnesotaSPNNBootstrap Coffee RoastersLake Monster BrewingElpis Enterprises and other enterprises in Vandalia Tower! The happy hour will feature beer from Lake Monster Brewing and a coffee tasting from Bootstrap Coffee, a small craft roaster that distributes its coffee through home subscriptions and wholesale. A showcase of work from IFP and SPNN youth programs will be screened in IFP's space.

The main entrance to the Vandalia Tower complex is off of Wabash Avenue, not Vandalia Street, and that can be confusing to new visitors.

SPNN and IFP nurture an "area where everyone feels welcome" in the CEZ. We sat down with Chad Johnston (Executive Director of SPNN) and Andrew Peterson (Executive Director of IFP) to talk about why they chose to become neighbors in the CEZ. IFP's move to Vandalia Tower was a huge motivator for SPNN to choose the building, and together, they aim to engage the next generation of media artists by "creating a space where everyone feels welcome."

Not only have their spaces in the CEZ helped both SPNN and IFP to find new partners and collaborations, but it has made their programs more visible to the public, drastically increasing class enrollment for both organizations. The spaces were designed for community, and students–especially youth of color–feel comfortable hanging around before and after class.

Though both IFP and SPNN are media organizations with a goal of evolving storytelling, they have distinct approaches, and see each other as partners rather than competition. As Andrew said, "none of us will survive if we don't utilize the strengths of others."

Interested in seeing what these spaces look like in action? Join us  with IFP, SPNN, and other Vandalia Tower Enterprises next Thursday, August 25, from 5-8PM.
